Jerusalem's Western Wall and Islamic Mosque
Ofer Aderet (Haaretz.com; May 14, 2013) quotes writer Rachel Yanait Ben-Zvi who, in 1908, marveled at the plants growing between the Wall's huge stones. "From where have they suckled their vitality? Was it not from the tears of mothers?" Though forbidden by ultra-Conservative rabbis, activist "Women of the Wall" keep trying to read aloud from Torah, sing, and wear prayer shawls in their designated area -- which is much smaller than the men's.
